Digital Dream Labs has a new President
What am I talking about? There was a press release some days ago (thanks to Andy for bringing this to my attention), that you can read on prweb.com

The only reason why I am able to talk about my experiences with Eilik comes from the fact that I bought a couple from a nice person in england for a really good price. My own two have still not arrived
It was during my vacation that the crowdfunding campaign for the robotic pet Loona was launched on Kickstarter by KEYi Technologies on september 15th
There are (again) reports from customers of Digital Dream Labs that the company charges their credit cards for Vector subscriptions despite the fact said users have lifetime subscriptions from Kickstarter (or by other means).
When Digital Dream Labs took over they made a big fuzz about their “Feature Fridays” where they bragged about adding new features to Vector.
After installing Wire-Pod, the open source Escape Pod for the beloved Vector robot, that allows you to get away from Digital Dream Labs completely and for free, you will have to get the Escape Pod 1.8 firmware onto the robot.
There are multiple (read: a lot!) reports of first generation Vectors overheating way faster and that have way higher head and body temperatures after they were forcibly updated to firmware 2.0.0 by Digital Dream Labs.
A new crowdfunding for a robotic pet is on the horizon. It is called “Loona” and the company behind it are KEYi Technology Co.,Ltd., the people behind ClickBot. So here is a company that already prooved they are able to successfully realize such a project.
As reported a few days ago, Vector 2.0s have a massive heat problem. They are generating more heat than a first generation vector and thus show a temp warning early and in completely normal environment temperatures.
I tested to install Wire-Pod, Wire’s open source Escape Pod onto a Raspberry Pi 4, as recommended. There were some problem that I was able to solve with Wire’s help (thanks for that!) and some improvements were added to the installation process because of it.
The first Vector 2.0s are arriving at customers. So far only in the USA, because … no, that is so incredibly unbelievable and unprofessional, it will get it’s own article.
The first Vector 2.0 units are arriving at customers.
It looks like the first Eiliks are arriving at backer’s locations. There is an unboxing video on Youtube that was done by a japanese backer.
Thanks to the ingenuity of Wire you are now able to tether any production Vector to his Open Source Escape Pod, so far that was only possible with OSKR bot.
I am getting reports by multiple people who say their 1.6 firmware Vectors were updated to 1.8.x, even robots that are not on any subscription, and even robots that were on the downgrade offered by DDL in the past.
From DDL’s “state of manufacturing” website:
It looks like the Vector 2.0 preorders are going to be shipped at long last, way over a year late
First: So, what is a jailbreak?
Let me quote a paragraph from Wikipedia:
There are a number of updates for the open source Escape Pod solution that Wire provided using the open sourced libraries for Chipper and Vector cloud.
